A short introduction
The
German Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz - DRK) in
Clausthal-Zellerfeld is part of the DRK in Germany. In
Clausthal-Zellerfeld the DRK runs a residential home for the elderly,
collects used clothes both in containers at the DRK-house or in street
collections. Quartely the DRK organises the opportunity to donate blood.
Both the clothes collections and the blood donations are arranged with
the help of those people who are active and the youth red cross (Jugendrotkreuz
- JRK).
The JRK is a group of eight girls at the moment. They get together once
a week. They learn not only about first aid, emergency aid and medical
services but also about social behaviours and a lot of other things.
Sometimes there are teamwork's with youth groups from other
organisations, such as fire brigades, and also with other members in the
DRK.
The DRK in Clausthal-Zellerfeld is not only active in social areas, but
also in civil protection and emergency medical services (EMS). Due to
the location of Clausthal-Zellerfeld the DRK is also active in the
mountain rescue service.
If
the municipal EMS is not available or needs extra help in a case of
emergency, the members of the DRK are alarmed with pagers by the
emergency communication centre. They use an ambulance stationed at the
house of the DRK.
Besides the ambulance the DRK in Clausthal-Zellerfeld has a small bus
with eight seats, which is not only used to transport people but also
has mountain rescue equipment on board and is used for medical services
at events. There is also a car used in civil protection with equipment
to set up a temporary treatment centre.
Those three vehicles are part of a bigger unit within the DRK. This unit
also contains a group to take care of uninjured victims of emergencies
and a group to ensure the technical support and safety of the whole
unit.
Every Monday the JRK meets at 17.00h, and every Tuesday the active
members meet at 19.00h.
